We have stayed at this resort for 18 years and still get excited about staying. The grounds are really established and well maintained as is the majority of the resort. Our most recent stay was during the heavy rain and floods that followed. Luckily we stayed in that day. You’ve probably seen the footage it was end of days type weather. The hotel staff did an amazing, staying calm throughout this unprecedented event. The damage surrounding the hotel was epic, the jumeirah properties got off lightly. There were some leaks within the Madinat properties, but given the amount rain it could only be expected. We were in Al Farooz lounge having a light lunch as the weather got worse, the staff in the lounge kept serving and took care of any water ingress from under the doors. A big thank you to the staff in here along with the manager who kept his team on top of what was unraveling. The next day the clear up had already started, with lots of repairs already carried out. There was some flooding to the villa courtyards that subsided naturally and all was back to normal within 2 days. I’ve already submitted a review of the breakfast at the French Riviera, nothing more needs to be said other than another big thank you to Jordan Lee, Delores and their manager Elodi. There have been changes at the hotel and I was going to say if you’d not stayed before you’d be blown away, however some of the changes have made an impact. Staying in the Villas the info states curated canapés and drinks for sundowner. Crisps and nuts are not canapés, the crisps were often stale, this could be a batch issue as randomly we’d get a bowl of crispy crisps. The reduction in butler staff also has had an impact, e butler should be an addition not a replacement for the excellent staff Jumeirah have trained over the years. One reason many guests return is to see their adopted family in Jumeirah. Our butler Sudath did a great job of looking after us, with all our requests handled in his usual friendly and efficient manner. Sudath is one person we return to see, which is the same for our friends also, he’s Jumeirah through and through. I hope his shoes have dried out after the flooding, this guy went above and beyond to get us through the evening storm, literally wading through the water in the villas courtyard. Some of the staff left in lieu of a proper butler could barely understand English or any drink requests made, often just giving a blank stare in response, they were definitely not up to Jumeirah standard. Our villas has had stains on both bedside lamps for the last 3 stays and I was shocked that they were still the same lamps, if this was a budget hotel you wouldn’t be happy. I expressed my concern to the manager of the cleaning team who had obviously overlooked this during her daily perusal of the rooms, they were changed that afternoon, it’s not our place to be managing something so obviously wrong. . I understand the villas are being refurbished, but letting things Get to a stage that they’re shoddy is not acceptable. Our room maid did an excellent job of making up the room and cleaning, but should also maybe report these matters to his line manger. One big effect on this and our previous stay was changing sundowners to an earlier time, when in the warmer months people are enjoying the last hours of sunshine. I’ve read another report on here commenting on the change of time. We have mentioned this previously to the villas assistant manager and her response was that most guests prefer it! I’d beg to differ as there were lots of discussions with various guests who weren’t impressed and made their concerns known. We’ve being staying long enough to establish Platinum level on Jumeirah One, with gold we used to get access to the club lounge which is long gone and later PLC. This privilege has also been removed and does impact our stay and many guests we spoke with who have been staying at the resort for many years. We recently stayed in London and the hotel had a club lounge that was open all day through to late evening and the room rate was similar to Dar al Masyaf. We ate at The resort most evenings, Pier Chic, Flamingo Room, Pai Thai (3 times), Atrangi and Al-nafoorah to name a few. Al-nafoorah didn’t hit the mark on this occasion, the food just didn’t cut it, no better than Lebanese food we get back home, this place was my go to restaurant when it was down town and I’ve eaten at the Al Qasr restaurant numerous times too. The staff were good but the food was just ok. The Flamingo room used to have amazing staff, on the night we ate there on this occasion they seemed under trained to say the least, this is not a fast food restaurant and needs better trained staff. Pai Thai was brilliant as usual, they even sent food to our villas during the rain (arranged by Sudath). We had a great night in Pier Chic and everyone’s meal was excellent. The beach staff were amazing, Charles took care of us most days, he greeted us with a big smile throughout the day. Enjoy made my wife ginger tea as he realised she was suffering with a cold, he checked on her daily and we now call him Dr Bejoy. Zer mad an appearance because he’d heard we were back at the resort, he was on pool bar duty but made the effort to drop by and say hello. Bridgette was on another section of beach but also stopped by to say hi during her quiet time. Abu made our drinks from at the bar. Godwin covered for Charles on his days off and too great care of us too. Lucky kept a watchful eye over our party and visited almost daily to check everything was up to standard on the beach. Ahsan, delivered ice lolly’s and fruit throughout the day, no ice lolly’s for a couple of days after the flooding absolute disaster :-) Ahsan is a trooper and really makes a difference on the beach. The food on the beach was up to its usual high standard. We had drinks and food at Bar Buci one evening, drinks by Ma and her team were amazing, she’s a crazy lovely lady, she made us feel so welcome and was very attentive despite how busy she was. On the front of the hotel Ronny, Herbert and the team made getting taxis and buggies a breeze even during the crazy times. One buggy driver in particular Amrish exceeded all expectations, making sure our arrival and departure went as smooth as possible, instructing the early morning team to take good care of us, it was like a military operation (we don’t travel light). Santosh the guy on front desk made our check in perfect, he has a calm confident nature that is old school Jumeirah. Santosh made regular checks on us throughout our stay. My comments above are made reluctantly but on this occasion Jumeirah failed to produce and it felt like a lot of cost savings had been introduced. All this aside we had an excellent stay and have already booked for later in the year. I just hope some of the items above have been remedied.
